Time Bandits

Double Feature with THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN (1:30, 6:30)

The Python’s regular animator and resident American, Terry Gilliam, of course, went on to become an acclaimed filmmaker in his own right – and in his early films, he often worked with members of the Python troupe. For this absurdist, time-and-space-traveling, fantasy extravaganza, Gilliam co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Palin and enlisted John Cleese for a memorable turn as Robin Hood.

Staff Pick! Casey

“Amazingly well-produced. The historic locations are jammed with character and detail. This is the only live-action movie I’ve seen that literally looks like pages out of Heavy Metal magazine.”
– Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“A cheerfully irreverent lark — part fairy tale, part science fiction and part comedy.”
– Vincent Canby, New York Times

“The film is resolutely, passionately antiadult, yet much of the humor has an adult sophistication and edge to it; this is one kids’ movie that doesn’t condescend.”
– Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
