Staff Picks (past events)Repertory Series Archive(Some of) The Best of 2019

Us

2019 • dir Jordan Peele w/Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker • 116 min • DCP

A husband eager for some family together time convinces his wife to bring their kids to her family’s beach house in Santa Cruz for a getaway. On their first night there, however, things get creepy when another family shows up in their driveway and forces their way into the house. To give away more would be a disservice to those who haven’t seen it but, suffice to say that, US is a thrilling horror film with an epic-in-scope backstory that is a treat on the big screen with an engaged audience.

Staff Pick! Casey, Dave
Casey: “Manages to unsettle me every time, even after the fifth or sixth rewatch. I love this movie!”
Dave: “If ya like psychological horror ‘Us’ fills the ticket from the director of ‘Get Out,’ Jordan Peele.”

“‘Us’ is political filmmaking of the most spirited sort, and it sets up quite a fight: the Hydes come to visit the Jekylls, and the Jekylls hit back. Whom you cheer for, in the long run, is up to you.”
– Anthony Lane, New Yorker

“A stunning sophomore effort from Jordan Peele.”
– Chris Hewitt, Empire

“‘Us’ is nothing short of a colossal achievement.”
– Richard Brody, New Yorker

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
