“‘Tread’ is a Mind-Boggling Documentary That Must Be Seen to Be Believed”
– Jacob Hall, /Film

On June 4th, 2004, a sixty-three-ton bulldozer, fortified with steel and concrete, systematically destroyed numerous businesses and homes in the small mountain town of Granby, Colorado. The rampage lasted for over two hours and resulted in millions of dollars in damage. State and local police were rendered harmless – incapable of even slowing the machine. Though it was armed with three high-powered firearms, no one but the driver died. His name was Marvin Heemeyer.

Cambridge-bred filmmaker Paul Solet cut his teeth on genre films – like his remarkable feature debut Grace – and he levies these skills to mount this thrilling documentary about one man’s descent into madness. The inspiration for Heemeyer’s homemade tank didn’t appear overnight – his paranoia and rage developed over years of the kind of in-fighting and petty grievances that rural, small-town life seems to excel at incubating. TREAD explores the polarizing perspectives on this man, his motives, and what drove him to the breaking point through news footage, recreations, and interviews with those who knew him – or thought they did.

Filmmaker Paul Solet will be present for Q&As on Fri, Feb 21.

“A taut psychodrama that slyly manipulates point of view and narrative suspense.”
– Peter Keough, Boston Globe

“Tread is a substantive, visually rich doc with the dynamics of a narrative thriller.”
– Rodney Perkins, Screen Anarchy

“Solet may not have explicitly made a horror movie, but it’s truly terrifying nonetheless.”
– Richard Whittaker, The Austin Chronicle

“An absorbing documentary about a real-life rampage that often plays like the dark side of ’70s rural revenge thrillers.”
– Joe Leydon, Variety

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
