Light From Light

2019 • dir Paul Harrill w/Marin Ireland, Jim Gaffigan, Josh Wiggins, Atheena Frizzell • 82 min • 35mm

Gifted with sometimes-prophetic dreams and a lifelong interest in the paranormal, single-mother Shelia (Ireland) is asked to investigate a potential haunting at a Tennessee farmhouse. It’s there she meets Richard (Gaffigan), a recent widower who believes his wife may still be with him. The investigation that ensues – which eventually pulls in Shelia’s teenage son, Owen and his classmate Lucy – forces them to confront the mysteries of their own lives. Featuring original music by Adam Granduciel and Jon Natchez of The War on Drugs, LIGHT FROM LIGHT is a finely-wrought, haunting study of four characters at cross-roads in their lives who must open up to each other to move forward. We are pleased to present this beautiful film from a 35mm print.

“One of the most dignified, humble, and perhaps even aspirational visions of American life I’ve seen in quite some time.”
– Jake Mulligan, Dig Boston

“A movie of great intimacy and mystery, LIGHT FROM LIGHT is a remarkable achievement.”
– C. Mason Wells, Film Comment

“An unconventional ghost story… made all the more transfixing by its defining delicacy and understatement.”
– David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

Vox: “How Light from Light’s team used ’emotional research’ to build an unusual ghost-hunter story”

Dear Brattle Friends,

You guys continue to humble and amaze us with your outpouring of support!

Thanks to you, we have now raised more than $35,000 from over 400 individual donors!

Thank you for helping to keep our staff paid and The Brattle alive during this scary time.

I hope that you are all feeling healthy.

As we remain closed, our preliminary goal is to raise four weeks of operating support, or $65,000, to ensure we can continue to pay all of our staff, and other overhead through April 7. As things develop, our timeline for being closed and fundraising goal may change, but our ultimate goal of re-opening The Brattle stays firm.

With your help, this goal will become a reality.

Stay healthy,

Ivy, Ned & The Brattle Theatre Team
