Purple Rain [canceled]

1984 • dir Albert Magnoli w/Prince, Apollonia Kotero, Morris Day • 111 min • DCP

One of the most electric rock’n’roll musicals ever made, Prince’s PURPLE RAIN casts the multi-talented performer as a version of himself called “The Kid.” The Kid’s star is on the rise but to get to the top he’s going to have to work on his anger and his ego – both exacerbated by his abusive and manipulative parents and his smarmy rival, Morris (Day). But, a new love brings a new openness and, of course, The Kid comes out on top to play a victorious set at the climax of the film.

Staff Pick! Cal, Dave
Cal: “Morris Day should have won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and I stand by that.”
Dave: “Whatever folks think of Purple Rain as a movie, It is an homage to his Purpleness in all his glory, and man can he play a guitar!”
