Virtual Program Highlights:
Using last year’s Oscar darling The Revenant as inspiration, we offer this series of films that focus on the intersection of mankind and wilderness. Cinema has often tackled the issues of men and women alone against the elements – whether in desert survival stories or on the open seas – but, for this program, we focus exclusively on those titles that take place on the frontiers of North America. Kicking off with the rarely-seen MAN IN THE WILDERNESS (based on the same story as The Revenant), we travel from coast to coast following some of cinema’s most hardened adventurers – from the Revisionist Westerns of the 1970s to the uplifting wilderness adventure of NEVER CRY WOLF to contemporary visions of almost horrific proportion (THE GREY, VALHALLA RISING).
