Great Romances 2012

Friday, February 10 – Thursday, February 16, 2012

The great thing about romantic movies is that there’s one for everyone… even terrifying mutants are represented in this lineup of love stories! We kick off this series with screenings of one of our favorite romantic fantasies, THE PRINCESS BRIDE, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Unfortunately, due to a temporary embargo by Warner Bros, we are unable to screen Casablanca for Valentine’s Day this year (don’t worry, it will be back later in 2012) but we’re recruiting Holly Golightly to turn our ‘mean reds’ around with special screenings of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S on the big day. You will get your February Bogie fix, however, as we’re showing Bogart and Bacall’s first film together, TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, alongside a new 35mm print of the classic femme-fatale film noir, GILDA. Rounding out the series is Wong Kar-Wai’s achingly romantic IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. And, oh yeah, that terrifying mutant comes in the form of David Cronenberg’s THE FLY which we screen immediately following Valentine’s Day. So phone up a date, whoever or whatever they might be, and come on down to the Brattle for a dose of love stories both straightforward and strange.
