Wicked Queer: Flashback 2016

Friday, September 16 – Monday, September 19, 2016

Co-presented with Wicked Queer

We’re thrilled to partner with our friends at Wicked Queer (fka the Boston LGBT Film Festival) for this all-too-brief look at the explosion of queer cinema that occurred during the 1980s and ‘90s. Prior to the mid-‘80s, LGBT characters rarely took lead roles in cinema (and those who did appear were typically caricatures, stereotypes, and worse). But with the rise of gay liberation and the devastation of the AIDS epidemic the queer community began to tell their own stories and create their own cinema. This series includes groundbreaking underground films, sexy neo-noirs, period pieces, and debuts from world-renowned filmmakers. Please join us in a flashback to a period when some of the greatest queer filmmakers began telling their stories.
