INMANWEEN LIVES!

Friday, October 30

A Team of Mad Scientists from the ECBA and Brattle Theatre have found a way to bring life to the annual Inmanween tradition. It’s an electrifying Virtual Movie night!

While there will NOT be trick or treating at our local shops this year, but we have teamed up with the East Cambridge Business Association for a spooky Dinner and Movie Night to be enjoyed at home.

Order take out and treats from your favorite local restaurant, then return here to watch a fun Halloween Movie!

All Ages Selection

COCO (2017)

This delightful animated fantasy about the afterlife follows the adventures of young Miguel, an aspiring musician even though his family forbids it, as he enters the Land of the Dead in an attempt to connect with his musical idol. A charming and moving film about connecting with one’s ancestors and the stories that families tell, COCO is well deserving of the praise heaped upon it and a wonderful movie to rewatch – or watch for the first time – at this time of year.

Streaming on Disney+ or for rent.

Teenage Selection

VAMPIRES VS THE BRONX (2020)

A fun homage to 80s teen horror/adventure films like The Lost Boys, VAMPIRES VS THE BRONX features a group of young heroes who take on not only the challenges of gentrification and living in a ‘forgotten’ neighborhood but, also, actual honest-to-goodness vampires. The film also features a couple of great, small roles for Zoe Saldana and Method Man plus a supporting turn from Joel Matinez aka The Kid Mero as, what else, the local bodega owner.

Streaming on Netflix only

Grown-Up Selection

EVIL DEAD II (1987)

One of our favorite, iconic horror movies and, quite simply, one of the most re-watchable films of the 1980s, EVIL DEAD II has often been a staple of The Brattle’s Halloween programming. The plot may be well known but it bears repeating: Hapless every-man Ash (Bruce Campbell) finds himself at the mercy of bizarre forces from beyond our understanding when he encounters a cursed book in a creepy cabin in the woods. This early masterpiece from Sam Raimi brilliantly toes the line between comedy and terror making for one of the most fun Halloween season watches that we can imagine.

Streaming on Hulu and for rent elsewhere.
