2016 • dir Matteo Borgardt w/Charles Bukowski, Silvia Bizio • 53 min
An evening of drinking, smoking, and talking with the irreverent poet Charles Bukowski in his San Pedro, California home in 1981 is recalled after the re-discovery of long-thought-lost videotapes documenting the moment. What had been planned as a brief piece for Italian TV soon devolved into an epic night of boozy conversation with Bukowski and his soon to be wife, Linda Lee Beighle, talking about all kinds of subjects, from writing and writers, to sex, love and humanity. Producer and journalist Silvia Bizio introduces the film by recounting her time with the author and the discovery of an extraordinary time capsule that led to the documentary’s creation. The interview was shot on Umatic tapes which have been digitized and edited along with new Super8 footage of Los Angeles today and poems read by Bukowski. Released in celebration of Bukowski’s 100th birthday – coming up on August 16 – in cooperation with the Slamdance Film Festival.
